Before I go any further, let’s just have a little blast from the past…

So, you know that post from the other day? The one about what a terrible little procrastinator I’ve been and how I need to get my stuff together because, umm, there are only 5 weeks left until a child comes into my life? Well let me tell you, people, something very strange has happened to me. I have undergone a transformation unlike anything I’ve ever known.
I am now a nesting monster.
Wednesday night I went home with my handy little list of to-do’s (which was quite the overwhelming list, let me tell you) and tackled an impressive amount of things in just a few hours. I washed, folded, and put away the baby’s clothes in freshly-lined dresser drawers, tackled mine and Justin’s laundry pile, managed to organize the 5,000 newborn diapers that were sprawled all over our living room into one nice box, dusted, vacuumed, swept, cleaned our room and made our bed.
I know this probably doesn’t seem like a big deal to some of you, but let me make something clear: I am NOT an organized person. My room growing up was filled with 3 big pile of clothes — clean, dirty, and not-sure-but-I’ll-deal-with-it-later. I’ve never really been the type to, you know, put things away until about 2 days ago.
And also? A recent trip to Target further proved this miraculous change, when I passed up the clothes section and instead stocked up on cleaning supplies and hangers. Who AM I?
Tell me, does this whole nesting thing wear off? In another couple months, am I going to be lugging around a newborn and still have this urge to scrub baseboards, organize closets, and find and destroy that one spider that managed to scurry away and is now hiding somewhere under the recliner, waiting to eat my feet whenever I come close?
(I’m serious. It’s a terrifying thing.)
OH, I hear ya on the spider!!! Keep your toes up! ;-)
And look at that belly! Ohmygoodness-so adorable!! How fun for you that you will have a lil’ baby girl in just a matter of weeks!
And no, doing ALL of those things is by far NOT normal for one evening…not for me at least! Outstanding! I bet you were pooped!
5 weeks! Holy cow. I’d be a little scared, but I am sure with all you’ve been through you’re gonna be ok :) Love the “deja vu” pics.
On a serious note, I’m kinda the same way as far as being organized. It’s like every so often I’ll get a cleaning/organizing bug. It also helps if your bf/hubby is helping out!
PS – and I have definitely NOT done anything cleaning wise besides vacuuming and sweeping since we moved in…oops.
Mayb its just cause I tend to be a bit OCD anyway, but my nesting urge still hasn’t gone away…
Wow… it’s going to take me being pregnant to get that nesting urge? I wish I had your motivation.
sadly, once the baby comes, the whole urge to clean and organized disappears in favor of sleep.
but the 15-30 min of rest are well worth it.
YOU ARE SOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!! :D
Yeah for nesting…I am telling you I cleaned and scrubbed my dryer. The Dryer? It’s great. She is almost here!!!! Got any bows for that princess yet?
Alyssa: Oh well, at least you get the urge and you’re not pregnant. That’s what it took for me, haha. I can’t wait to see your house though!
Shea: Hahaha, I can totally relate. And no, I don’t have ONE bow for her yet!
ha! get it done now cuz you won’t have the energy when she arrives. :)
Oh, don’t worry, you won’t have time or energy or free hands to clean with afterwards!
But I totaly feel you, because I thanked – THANKED – Misterpie for buying me a mop and some new, nice-smelling blue pine-sol before The Bun was born. Weird.
kittenpie: Seriously?! That’s so funny… normally I’d be like, “what’s THAT supposed to mean?” but I think I’d be thanking Justin if he bought me a new mop right about now too, haha.
Love the pic! You are still too cute!
As for nesting post-baby, well, I can say that I am MORE inclined to clean than I was before, but only when I can muster the energy to do it. ;)
Gotta love the bathroom photo shoots! Woo! Ummmm my bedroom right now has three big piles of clothes. Can you please teach me your cleaning ways?
oooh, I love the weeks next to each other …otherwise, I’m not sure I woulld have been able to see the difference! Adorable …and tiny, as always!
I’m pretty sure the nesting response kicks in because afterwards you’re doing good to limit the spit up to one spot on your clothes, and I don’t think I vacummed for several months. I think it’s safe to assume this is just a phase… though a very welcome one from the size of your to do list :)
I’ve been nesting since the first time I was pregnant, going on 3 years now. ;) GOOD LUCK!!
Nesting is fun and interesting and it gives you a taste of things to come. You will do all the stuff you need to do because you will just do it. Like when people have twins, triplets etc. How do they do it all? they’re so busy just doing they don’t think about how they’re doing it, they just do it! There is certainly a learning curve and some days are better than others, but eventually it becomes a habit. You do it because you love ’em and you want ’em to have the a cozy home!
Hi! I enjoyed scrolling through your blog! Congrats on 35 weeks!
when are you due?
Shannon: Thanks! Glad you stopped by. :)
Rachel: I’m due on Thanksgiving day… 4 more weeks! AH!
Hmm, maybe the secret to getting my house cleaned is to get pregnant… it would cross two things off my must-do list – clean the house and get my mother off my back.
Still freaking adorable. “Nesting monster” bwahahaha that is hilarious. I’m pretty much a mess and I really want to get organized. Andrew’s parents are coming to town in two weeks, so maybe I’ll work on that soon. Maybe.
Still waiting on my nesting……….. but you give me hope that it WILL happen!! I work best under pressure too. ;)
You’re looking awful CUTE!
YAY FOR NESTING!! And for Maddie growing like a monster :)
