Where’s the fun in looking Perfect?

For as easily as I become frustrated by rudeness, I have never been the type to put off the “please die now” vibe. Usually I keep quiet, not because I feel better-than or am trying to rise above it, but because I’m usually so caught off guard and self-conscious by the comment that was just made that I have no idea how to react other than to clam up.

You know the day you went to work in a new outfit or with a new hairstyle? You were looking all stylish, feeling on top of the world and knew that nothing could possibly ruin your happy-fun cute day… Then some co-worker or classmate says, “you look different” or “someone has a new outfit” or “…bangs, huh?”, leaving open the possibility that your new look is stupid and hideous?  Yeah, I’ve had 2 days like that this week.

Yeah, the blonde-to-brunette change was a doozy yesterday. I can’t really expect people to NOT comment on it, but today’s events just really got to me.

I’m wearing a pencil skirt and a simple white v-neck shirt, heels, & minimal jewelry. My hair is up in a bumped ponytail with a headband, and I’m rocking the red lipstick and winged eyeliner. Rocking it, I tell you.

An hour ago, I was feeling very retro and adorable until I was handed a few rude “pinup wannabe” type of comments from two separate co-workers. I immediately ran to the bathroom and stood in front of the mirror for a good five minutes looking myself up and down.

How could my shining self-image change so quickly and drastically? Feeling a 10 one minute and like a friggin’ bag lady the next? Ridiculous.

Just as I was about to wipe off my lipstick and replace it with clear gloss I stopped, thought, “WHO CARES?!”, and waltzed right back out there, adding a little extra hip swing to my walk.

So what if I have a couple hairspray speckles I didn’t smooth out? Who cares if my bangs are a little uneven and I had a smudge of eyeliner on my cheek?

I am far from perfect, but I feel darn cute today.

New Hairstyle – Still Blonde, New Bangs

Thank you all for your feedback on my hair crisis post. What would I do without you all? Seriously. You gave me some super helpful advice that led me to this decision…

morgan-bangsI’m staying blonde and just added some bangs.  I’ve had an irrational fear of getting bangs since birth, I’m not even lying (okay maybe a little), so this was a HUGE step for me.

Since you girls said you love having them and they’re fun and flirty and versatile, I decided to just join the club already. I think I’m liking it!

We’ll just see how I feel when I have to style them on my own. Eep.

Bangs or not?

HELP ME, my lovely lady friends. Do you have bangs? Have you had bangs? Are they a good idea or not?

I’m getting my hair done later today and I’m wanting something different. I know I finally went back blonde after whining about it for a year, but I even kinda sorta might want to dye it back brown as well. I’m weird, let’s just agree on that right now.

Anyway, I know I look absolutely NOTHING like Kim Kardashian, but this picture made me rethink my current California Girl look…

Dark, shiny… I would need a major tan so as not to look albino-goth again (bad times, bad times), but I think it’s doable.

Review: The Complete Eyebrow Guide

For as much time, effort, and money we spend on perfecting our appearance, it must be something that holds quite a bit of importance.  Beauty and fashion trends are ever-changing, as the latest fads tend to evolve quickly over short periods of time.

One thing is to be sure: Great looking eyebrows never go out of style.  It’s one accessory your face can’t afford to skimp on, unless of course, you favor the whole Sasquatch look.  Thank Heavens, I’ve grown out of that stage.  Seventh grade… yeeow.

Bushy eyebrows and glasses? Check. I didn't grow the mustache until later.
Bushy eyebrows and glasses? Check. The mustache didn't make an appearance for another few years.

Trisha Bartle, the beauty and brains behind Makeup Files, was an absolute doll in letting me check out her latest eBook, The Complete Eyebrow Guide.  She has compiled an extensive, yet easy-to-follow guide on achieving the perfect brows.  The book goes through various hair removal options, includes step-by-step instructions and is packed full of other informative tips and tricks I would have never known.

One thing I especially appreciated was the section dedicated to grooming men’s eyebrows.  I think we can all give her a big THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for that one!

...not cute.

Falling for the Trends

I have been noticing more and more girls getting into the purple nail polish trend and, being the completely original & non-conformist that I am (HA), I just had to try it for myself.

They're actually not that bright of a purple in person... weird...

I have to say, I was a bit skeptical of wearing the darker shade on my nails at first.  This is probably due to the fact that two of my friends still tease me about that time I wore black polish when we went out a few years ago, when I thought it was incredibly chic and sophisticated and glamorous because EVERYONE ON THE HILLS IS WEARING IT! Apparently those girlfriends of mine didn’t watch The Hills (I know… What?!) and still tease me to this day for ever thinking dark polish could be anything other than gothic.  Whateva, I say.

I give it a thumbs-up too, Lauren. Har-har.

So what do you all think?  Do you stick with more natural colors on your nails?  No polish at all?  Or do you go all out bold, dark, and don’t care if people say you look like you should be wearing a trenchcoat and casting spells?

Do you definitely not put as much thought into it as I do because you actually have this little thing called a life?  Yeah, that’s what I figured.
